Primary Responsibility:

The Transformer Winder plays a crucial role in the assembly of transformer coils within a workshop setting. This position demands timely task completion while adhering to budget constraints to ensure customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Rewind a variety of liquid and dry transformers.
  • Utilize wire-coiling machinery for winding wire or sheet coils.
  • Examine work orders and specifications to ascertain required materials.
  • Interpret winding data sheets and technical drawings.
  • Operate winding lathes, punches, and shears.
  • Prepare wire leads by cutting, stripping, and bending as necessary.
  • Select and load materials onto machinery.
  • Accurately document production and operational data on designated forms.
  • Identify and communicate quality issues to a supervisor.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized workspace through effective housekeeping practices.
  • Inspect electro-mechanical equipment for any damage or electrical faults.
  • Employ hand tools to attach, modify, and trim materials.
  • Utilize an overhead crane for loading and unloading materials from machinery.
  • Dismantle or strip defective or unusable electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Prepare reusable components for rewinding and assess renewed parts for hidden damages or unusual conditions.
  • Implement proper insulating techniques during the rewinding process.
  • Operate brazing and welding tools to create connections, fabricate crossovers, and secure leads.
  • Complete necessary paperwork accurately and punctually for each task.
  • Handle specialized repair and testing equipment, including winding machines, insulation resistance testers, cut-off saws, bake ovens, grinders, cranes, forklifts, brazing units, dip tanks, VPI systems, and various handheld tools.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), particularly eye and ear protection, steel-toed footwear, gloves, etc.
  • Report all injuries, near misses, and accidents to a supervisor immediately.
  • Conduct electrical testing, document connection and winding data on quality assurance forms, order materials, wind random coils, insert finished coils, connect coils, test, tape, and secure finished coils, and prepare for installation.
  • Perform tasks as directed based on departmental requirements.

  • Department efficiency, characterized by low rework and warranty costs, optimal manpower utilization, and completion of work within estimated hours.
  • Customer satisfaction, ensuring that expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Timely completion of projects.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of transformer coil winding processes.
  • Experience in transformer assembly and coil winding is essential.
  • A diligent, detail-oriented individual capable of positively guiding personnel with effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must successfully pass all required checks and screenings.
  • If duties involve operating a motor vehicle, a clean motor vehicle record is necessary.
