Job Description

General Overview

The primary function of this role is to execute skilled labor tasks utilizing a range of hand tools, power tools, and machinery. This includes operating various heavy machinery such as dump trucks, backhoes, front-end loaders, and other specialized equipment necessary for municipal maintenance and construction projects.

This position operates under general supervision, allowing for independent development of work methods and sequences.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties represent the majority of the responsibilities associated with this position. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed:

  • Conduct labor necessary for the upkeep and construction of roads, bridges, drainage systems, and other infrastructure.
  • Operate light to medium trucks, dump trucks, and various earth-moving and asphalt-compacting equipment.
  • Utilize a variety of tools including shovels, pneumatic devices, pressure washers, and other power tools.
  • Assist in training for the operation of motor graders, backhoes, and tractors.
  • Prepare necessary reports, including maintenance and weekly updates.
  • Perform general maintenance of equipment and assist in project setup.
  • Provide assistance during emergencies and adverse weather conditions.
  • Deliver professional customer service to both internal staff and the public.
  • Participate in demolition projects as required.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.

At least two years of experience in the safe operation of relevant machinery and equipment is necessary, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills.

Physical Requirements

This role involves medium physical work, requiring activities such as walking, standing, lifting, and pushing objects, with regular exertion of 20 to 50 pounds and occasional exertion of 50 to 100 pounds.

Work Environment Hazards

Regular exposure to various environmental conditions, including:

  • Bright and dim lighting
  • Dust and pollen
  • Extreme temperatures
  • High noise levels
  • Moving machinery
  • Potential electrical hazards

Licensing Requirements

A valid state Commercial Driver's License is required and must be maintained.
