Key Responsibilities
  • Support Instructional Program: Assist teachers in implementing classroom goals and objectives, adapting activities and materials to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Provide Academic Support: Work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts and assist in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
  • Communicate with Teachers: Collaborate with teachers to evaluate student progress and implement classroom objectives.
  • Maintain Classroom Environment: Ensure the classroom is safe and organized, maintaining equipment, work areas, and records as needed.
  • Monitor Student Behavior: Supervise students in various settings, reporting observations and incidents to teachers and administrators as necessary.
  • Perform Administrative Tasks: Assist with general clerical duties, such as preparing materials, making copies, and filing documents.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; completion of 48 credit hours of college study or passing the OGET test and Parapro Assessment Test (or Workkeys Assessment) is also acceptable.
  • Special Education Paraprofessional: In addition to the above, special education paraprofessionals must complete OSDE special education paraprofessional training, CPR/First Aid certification, Universal Precautions/Bloodborne Pathogens training, and six hours of professional development annually.
  • Skills and Abilities: Ability to work with diverse groups, maintain confidentiality, set priorities, and work as part of a team; problem-solving skills required to identify issues and create action plans.
Work Environment

This position requires working in a well-lighted, climate-controlled environment, with occasional work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions.
