Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Automation System Technician to join our team at Dorsett Controls. As an Automation System Technician, you will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining computer-based control systems that monitor and control various electrical and mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement control programming for projects based on design specifications and project requirements
  • Configure and test software for field and network level controllers
  • Conduct commissioning and system diagnostics for all levels of system controllers and end devices
  • Document commissioning activities and provide updates to management and customers
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and low-voltage controls components and instrumentation
  • Calibrate system devices using electronic test and calibration equipment
  • Manage administrative tasks, including time sheets, expense reports, and on-site documentation
  • Develop and maintain as-built documentation for projects
  • Respond to emergency service calls and customer service requests
  • Diagnose and repair system issues, and perform preventative maintenance and diagnostics
  • Test and verify system readings to ensure optimal system operation
  • Generate drawings and schematics using CAD software
  • Program controls using various software platforms
  • Develop and modify electronic devices, circuits, or systems according to specifications
  • Read electrical drawings and schematics
  • Set up and test communications devices for systems
  • Collaborate with subcontractors to install system components
  • Perform on-site start-up and check-out of control systems
Requirements
  • Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or related experience and/or training
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in controls and automation, including troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of process control and/or digital control systems
  • Minimum 2 years' experience with PLCs (AB/Rockwell Automation preferred)
  • Experience with Ignition or VTSCADA HMI software is a plus
  • BACnet, TCP/IP, SQL, and Modbus protocols experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and customer relationship skills; team player
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record
  • Pass a background screening for work on a federal installation
  • Time management; organizational skills
  • Adaptability; dependability; flexibility; integrity
Working Conditions

The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with occasional travel required. The employee will be exposed to outside weather conditions and the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Risk of occupational exposure to potentially infectious materials and radio frequency emissions.

Compensation

Salary range: $33-38 per hour
