The Professional Staff Nurse plays a crucial role as a Registered Nurse within our care delivery team. This position is responsible for establishing standards for care quality and managing patient care activities for a designated group of patients and their families. The role requires independent judgment, effective communication, and collaboration with all team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives specific to your department or unit, identifying opportunities for enhancement and contributing to patient satisfaction.
  • Utilize the nursing process within a Relationship-Based Care framework to foster a healing environment, setting daily goals and care plans that involve patients as partners.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with colleagues and patients, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and a commitment to a balanced work-life approach.
  • Participate in professional development activities that enhance both your practice and patient care quality, supporting shared governance and quality improvement efforts.
  • Apply adult learning principles in educating patients, families, and new staff, fostering an environment of open dialogue and continuous improvement.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care tailored to the ages of patients served by their assigned unit. A BSN is required, along with the ability to establish positive relationships with a diverse range of individuals. Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills are essential for this role.

Licensure and Certifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of practice or a state covered by a licensure compact agreement.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • UPMC prefers national certification in your specialty area.
