We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Programming Librarian to join our team at the City of Cedar Rapids, IA. As a key member of our Programming Department, you will be responsible for planning and presenting engaging library programs, initiatives, and experiences that cater to diverse age groups and skill levels.
Key Responsibilities- Program Planning and Presentation: Develop and implement large-scale programming initiatives, including author events, community cultural expos, teen camps, and outreach programs.
- Community Engagement: Collaborate with community partners to deliver programs and services that meet the needs of diverse populations.
- Research and Recommendations: Stay up-to-date with current and best practices in community programming and make recommendations for improvement.
- Scheduling and Marketing: Update and monitor program registration and marketing efforts to ensure maximum visibility and participation.
- Representation and Outreach: Represent the library at schools, community events, and off-site locations to promote library services and programs.
- Patron Services: Provide exceptional customer service, including greeting patrons, answering questions, and assisting with library account maintenance.
- Training and Development: Educate library staff on services and technology through informal on-the-job training and scheduled refreshers.
- Education: Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association-accredited program.
- Experience: At least 6 months of experience planning and presenting library programs, or 6 months to 2 years of customer service experience.
- Language Skills: Proficiency in a second non-English language is preferred.
- Certifications: Mental Health First Aid Certification is required or must be obtained within the first 6 months of employment.
- Driver's License: Valid Iowa Driver's License is required.
