POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for monitoring patients, gathering information, and documenting essential data. The EMT performs the insertion and removal of peripheral intravenous therapy lines under the guidance of a physician or nurse. Responsibilities also include blood collection, wound care, and dressing changes. The EMT applies plaster and fiberglass splints, casts, and traction devices, and conducts bedside testing such as oximetry and glucometry, along with other point-of-care tests. The role involves operating patient monitoring systems specific to the unit, ensuring the cleanliness of the unit, cleaning and storing equipment, and managing sharps containers. All interventions and data must be documented accurately, and communication with nursing staff or Licensed Independent Providers (LIPs) regarding findings and interventions is essential.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
A High School diploma or equivalent is required, along with completion of a trade or vocational program in medical/surgical patient care. Successful completion of an Intravenous Insertion course is necessary, as well as FEMA training courses IS 100 and others as required. Training in disaster preparedness and the use of PAPR is also expected.

LICENSES:
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association is mandatory. A valid Emergency Medical Technician certification (Basic) or equivalent is required, with the obligation to maintain current certification/licensure.

SKILLS:
Proficiency in the methods and techniques of urgent care service provision, first aid, and life support is essential. The ability to operate and maintain emergency medical equipment is crucial, along with excellent communication skills.

ABILITY TO:
- Provide preliminary and non-invasive treatment during emergencies.
- Assess a patient's immediate medical condition and coordinate care with paramedics and healthcare providers.
- Read and interpret technical reports and charts.
- Write concise and accurate reports.
- Manage high-stress situations while maintaining composure.
- Utilize computer skills for data entry and report generation.

EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of one year of experience as an EMT or in a similar role is required.

NATURE OF SUPERVISION:
Reports directly to the Urgent Care Director and Clinic Manager or their designee for essential job duties and daily responsibilities.

ENVIRONMENT:
Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious materials is inherent to the role. The EMT works irregular hours and manages multiple simultaneous activities related to patient care, facing unpredictable situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position demands the ability to handle emergency situations, with prolonged periods of standing and walking. Knowledge of and adherence to good body mechanics is necessary. Frequent lifting, positioning, pushing, and transferring of patients or equipment is required. Normal hearing and visual acuity are essential, along with manual dexterity and fine motor coordination.
