In the role of Architectural Department Manager, you will play a pivotal part in our Critical Mission Solutions Line of Business, contributing to the transformation of the future. Collaborating with a team of engineering and technical experts, you will engage in projects crucial to national security. These initiatives will support various federal agencies, including the Department of Energy, which is responsible for the management of the nation's nuclear deterrent and a comprehensive network of production facilities and national laboratories.

As the manager of Architects and Designers, you will oversee the design of multi-disciplinary projects from inception to completion. Your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Guiding and mentoring staff
  • Overseeing the work of Architects and Designers
  • Assisting in the development of proposals
  • Estimating work hours necessary for design completion
  • Participating in project planning, cost estimation, management, and scheduling
  • Creating manpower forecasts for the Director of Engineering
  • Handling additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Engineering
  • Ensuring the technical quality of designs produced by the Architectural Department
  • Formulating design concepts to meet client specifications
  • Producing reports, drawings, and specifications
  • Conducting design document reviews
  • Executing work in compliance with functional specifications, recognized codes and standards, and client protocols, along with quality assurance measures
  • Serving as a subject matter expert in nuclear facility design
  • Leading facility design charrettes and interactive planning sessions
  • Establishing and maintaining design requirements

Qualifications Required:

  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory
  • Registered Architect with the ability to obtain additional architectural licenses in other states
  • Eligibility to obtain Department of Energy Security Clearance
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Architecture from a NAAB accredited institution
  • Proficient understanding of the design and construction processes
  • A minimum of 15 years of architectural design experience, or 10 years with an advanced architectural degree
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Experience in leading design charrettes
  • Experience in developing and managing design requirements
  • Knowledge of sustainable design practices aligned with LEED and DOE Guiding Principles
  • Familiarity with REVIT and BIM technologies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in an architectural supervisory role
  • Experience in DOE/nuclear design
  • PMP certification
  • Project management experience
  • Residing in the greater Oak Ridge area
  • Experience with NQA-1 quality programs
  • Q security clearance
  • LEED Certification
  • Master's or PhD degree
  • Multi-state RA registration including CA, ID, TN, NC, NM, NV, SC, TX
  • NCARB registration
  • Expertise in REVIT and other BIM tools
  • Ownership in an architectural firm

Work Environment:

Office-based environment (95%) with physical requirements including the ability to walk, stand, bend, twist, and sit for extended periods (100%), as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs (25%).

Essential Functions:

Regular attendance is mandatory, with potential overtime or work outside normal hours. A valid driver's license is required, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting is essential. Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork is expected. Grooming and attire must be suitable for the position and not pose safety risks. The ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is necessary, along with passing a pre-employment drug and background check.

Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous materials, and industrial environments may occur. Travel requirements are minimal, typically less than 10%.
