Reporting to the Managing Director of Teaching and Learning (MDTL) and collaborating closely with School Leaders and Assistant Principals across our seven schools, the Director of Elementary Math is tasked with ensuring that our expanding network maintains both vertical and horizontal alignment in delivering rigorous, college-preparatory math and problem-solving instruction.
Key Duties Include:
- Collaborating with school leaders to establish and promote a vision for high-quality K-4 math intervention, instruction, and assessment.
- Ensuring that all math curricula and assessment programs are robust, aligned with common core standards, accessible to teachers, and tailored to meet student needs while maintaining both horizontal and vertical coherence.
- Supporting school leaders and educators in cultivating math classrooms that are joyful, structured, and nurturing, fostering a genuine passion for math and problem-solving.
- Providing training for teachers and leaders on effective curricular implementation and best practices in math instruction.
- Facilitating the development of a rigorous sequence of elementary math courses.
- Collaborating with Curriculum Directors and the Senior Director of Data and Analytics to design and implement an effective assessment strategy that promotes data-driven decision-making.
- Regularly engaging with regional and school leaders, as well as assistant principals, to evaluate the quality of math instruction in classrooms and devise strategies for enhancement.
- Analyzing region-wide math data to adapt strategies and support teachers and schools facing challenges.
- Building partnerships with local and national experts in math instruction through research, observation, and collaborative efforts.
- Facilitating onboarding and training for new teachers and leaders through the design and delivery of professional development.
- Working with school leaders to ensure students have access to programs, clubs, and extracurricular activities that nurture a love for mathematics and problem-solving.
- Performing other relevant duties as assigned by the MDTL.

Additional Credentials:
- Proven ability to evaluate, plan, and implement instructional programs, including core curriculum and supplemental interventions.
- Familiarity with national, state, and local standards and assessments.
- Confidence in facilitating diverse working groups and collaborating effectively.
- Proficiency in gathering and analyzing data, compiling information, and preparing reports.
- A minimum of three years of exemplary teaching experience in grades K-4 is required.
- A deep understanding of the Common Core Standards for grades K-4 is essential; experience implementing these standards in a school or network is preferred.
- Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required.
- A Bachelor's degree is mandatory.
- Experience in teacher coaching, training, school leadership, and/or curriculum design is strongly preferred.
- Completion of all necessary criminal and child abuse background checks is required.
Salary: KPPS offers competitive, equitable, and transparent salaries. The starting salary for this position is $90,000, commensurate with experience.
