About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Cybersecurity Engineer to join our team at MITRE, specializing in Operational Technology (OT) Security. As a key member of our Critical Infrastructure Assessments, Analytics, and Resiliency (L541) department, you will be responsible for generating work, providing technical guidance, and mentoring in OT Security.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain technical solutions within the MITRE Cyber Infrastructure Protection Innovation Center (CIPIC) focusing on engineering approaches to combat cyber threats in critical infrastructure.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to align technical deliverables with sponsor challenges, fostering relationships, proposing new work areas, and championing innovative research initiatives.
  • Ensure internal teams are aligned with project opportunities and offer technical oversight for ongoing product development.
  • Stay abreast of cybersecurity best practices for OT in various CI sectors, keep up with emerging technology trends, and provide strategic recommendations to support sponsors effectively.
  • Participate in and oversee technical reviews related to the capability area.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated expertise and interest in cybersecurity in operational technology contexts, with a track record of success in areas like Industrial Control Systems, space or weapon systems, maritime systems, healthcare, etc.
  • Proven ability to collaboratively solve complex technical problems, lead cybersecurity engineering teams, and engage effectively with peers.
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree with at least 10 years of relevant experience, or a master's with 7 years of experience, or a PhD with 4 years of experience; or equivalent education and work background.
  • Selected candidates will undergo a government security check and must meet eligibility criteria for accessing classified information or hold relevant security clearances.
  • Familiarity with core cybersecurity principles, policies, and standards is essential.
  • Current or ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret level security clearance.
  • This role involves at least 50% hybrid on-site work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience in designing, programming, and troubleshooting PLCs, DCS, IEDs, field instrumentation, and OT networks.
  • Prior involvement with industry or government entities focusing on OT cybersecurity.
  • Technical proficiency in control systems within operational settings like manufacturing, energy, water/wastewater, with knowledge of typical industrial control system setups.
  • Familiarity with the current landscape of OT security, drawing from commercial and government experience.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity policies and standards such as NIST SP 800-82, NERC-CIP, DoD Zero Trust Strategy, IEC 62443.
