The Cytology Specialist is responsible for the meticulous evaluation of cytology samples, providing preliminary diagnostic insights. This role includes assisting pathologists during fine needle aspiration procedures and ensuring adherence to quality control standards, instrument upkeep, and workplace safety protocols. Preparation tasks are performed as needed to maintain workflow efficiency.

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL CRITERIA:

Licensure and Certification

Must hold a valid Cytotechnologist license from the New York State Education Department.

Educational Background and Experience

  1. Completion of an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Cytotechnology or a related scientific discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position operates indoors under standard working conditions. The individual must be capable of pushing/pulling 25 lbs., lifting/moving 15 lbs. from floor to table, and performing moderately complex manual tasks such as typing, writing, and filing for extended periods. The role requires hand-eye coordination for data entry and other tasks. Mobility requirements include the ability to sit at a workstation for prolonged periods and to stand, walk, and squat as necessary. Sensory requirements involve the ability to articulate and comprehend spoken English, as well as reading proficiency in English.

Salary Range: $23.40-$33.93/hour Compensation is determined by experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be compensated within the stated hourly rates. The pay range may vary based on location.
