Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Engineer to join our team at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a member of our team, you will work collaboratively with a small group of network engineers to design, implement, and maintain our enterprise network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and secure APL's enterprise network, including switching, routing, and wireless access points.
  • Provide operational and engineering expertise for APL's enterprise networks, including engineering design, technology implementations, and technology refreshes.
  • Creation of supporting documentation, such as architecture drawings, test plans, device configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Propose designs/solutions to align APL's unclassified network with DoD security requirements, e.g. CMMC.
  • Provide technical expertise to customers, sector technical staff, and other network engineers.
  • Analyze log and event data (packet captures, syslog, netflow, etc.) to solve enterprise operational, performance, and security-related incidents.
Requirements
  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Have 10+ years of experience working with Cisco IOS or similar.
  • Expertise in network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VRRP/HSRP, and routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF).
  • Familiarization with Network Access Controls, 802.1X technologies, and leveraging policy management, authentication, and authorization.
  • Experience with Wireshark and Splunk.
  • Experience designing and maintaining enterprise wireless deployments.
  • Possess hands-on experience administering/maintaining computer networks.
  • Successfully led an engineering effort from concept development to implementation, providing regular progress updates to stakeholders and driving the project to completion.
  • Demonstrate sound deductive reasoning and thought processes.
  • Be willing and able to work outside normal working hours to complete critical maintenance and resolve outages.
  • Be able to obtain a Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with NAC technologies (FortiNAC, ForeScout, Cisco ISE, etc.).
  • Experience working with NIST and NIST.
  • Experience working with Arista EOS.
  • Obtained or currently possess a wireless certification.
  • Experience with Ekahau software.
  • Experience with scripting and use of automated tools.
