Summary:
The Finishing Equipment Specialist is responsible for setting up and operating saddle stitchers or perfect binders.
This role requires demonstrated leadership, administrative, and interpersonal skills. The individual must exhibit patience and a commitment to completing tasks efficiently.As a Finishing Equipment Specialist, you will work with MBO Folders, Perfecta Cutters, Rollem, Automated Shrink Wrapper, and Foot Stitchers.
It is crucial for operators to deliver high-quality, meticulous work in accordance with established guidelines and procedures – precision and consistency are essential.
Responsibilities:
Engage with the supervisor daily to discuss schedules, job progress, and other tasks
Interpret job tickets and accurately document product counts and production times into the shop floor data system
Machine setup and operation:
Configure and fine-tune pockets to minimize drops and interruptions during operation
Adjust and monitor machine calipers to ensure the quality of the final product
Set up, modify, and repair stitcher heads as necessary for seamless operation
Change and calibrate trimmer knives
Inspect components and identify those requiring replacement
Source appropriate materials for each job based on the job ticket
Continuously assess the quality of the finished product
Maintain general upkeep and lubrication of the machinery
Assist with cleanliness in the finishing area
Be thoroughly knowledgeable about all aspects of the job finishing sheet
Adhere to all required safety protocols including PPEs, Ergonomics, Chemical Hazards, etc. Perform duties in a manner that safeguards the health and safety of all employees
Keep production charts and records updated
Mentor new team members
Provide guidance to the machine crew during production and downtime
Offer leadership as needed
Contribute insights to the supervisor for performance evaluations
Comply with all company policies and procedures
Complete and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of ongoing training concepts and applications

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Minimum of 2 years experience in a production environment, preferably with bindery equipment
Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to prioritize tasks effectively
Capability to track and report on opportunities for improvement and success
Active listening skills
Reliable, responsive team player
Ability to perform and retain various skill-related tasks, training, and operations
Minimum age of 18
Physical requirements:
Frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Frequently stoop, kneel, or bend over
Stand for extended periods
Communicate effectively in person and by telephone
Read and interpret documents in English such as job tickets, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Write routine reports and correspondence in English
Speak effectively in English before groups of workers
Add and subtract two-digit numbers and perform multiplication and division with 10s and 100s
Resolve practical problems and manage a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
Interpret various instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Willingness to train in other departments
During peak periods, this position may require working extended shifts and up to 7 days a week
