Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Utility Technician to join our team at WSSC Water. As a Utility Technician, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks related to the repair and maintenance of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine tasks related to the repair and maintenance of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Assist in the repair, maintenance, replacement, or rehabilitation of water mains and wastewater mains, water and wastewater taps, and replacing or repairing defective meters.
  • Assist in the setup of sediment control devices.
  • Prepare vehicle pre-trip inspection forms and various work documents.
  • Assist in replacing and maintaining fire hydrants, valves, and related fittings.
  • Make minor customer notifications concerning required repairs/service.
  • Assist in investigating and identifying solutions to utility problems.
  • Operate and maintain vehicles and equipment such as backhoes, front-end loaders, and dump trucks.
  • Assist with the installation of trench shoring devices.
  • Assist with rodding, cleaning, flushing, and televising sewer mains.
  • Pick up and dispose of spoil at designated work sites.
  • Use two-way radio, mobile data terminals, and LAN terminals to update work status.
  • Operate power and hand tools frequently to accomplish the work.
  • Observe safety regulations and follow and enforce recommended safety practices.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with no more than 4 points.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a WSSC Water driver's permit within 90 days of hire or transfer date.
  • Must pass Department of Transportation physical and possess a DOT Medical Card.
  • Must obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker endorsement within 1 year of hire or transfer and maintain it while in this role.
  • Shift work, on-call, and mandatory overtime may be required.
Working Conditions

The position may involve periodic risks of exposure to raw sewage, chemical substances, and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises, and minor burns. Employees are considered to be essential personnel and therefore must report to work as scheduled under all weather conditions.

Salary

$27.48 per hour plus shift differential.
