Special Education Teacher for Visually Impaired Students

Broome-Tioga BOCES is seeking a qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired to provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments.
Job Summary:The successful candidate will work in a collaborative environment to identify, develop, and implement appropriate instructional strategies, materials, equipment, and environmental factors that will maximize a student's visual functioning.
Key Responsibilities:- Work in pull-out individual sessions, support with push-in services as appropriate, and collaborate with classroom teachers regularly.
- Identify, develop, and implement appropriate instructional strategies, materials, equipment, and environmental factors that will maximize a student's visual functioning.
- Conduct functional vision assessments.
- Interpret eye/medical reports and share information with team members.
- Provide training/information for school personnel and parents regarding the needs of students with visual impairments.
- Design, facilitate, implement, and monitor progress of IEP goals.
- On-going collaboration with the student's team to ensure the provision of quality services.
- Accurately complete all paperwork related to provided services in a timely manner as mandated by New York State and school policies and procedures.
- New York State certification as a Special Education Teacher.
- Must hold Teacher of the Blind & Visually Impaired certification.
- Training in Orientation and Mobility preferred.
- Ability to read & instruct in Braille.
- Ability to modify activities and materials to meet the individual needs of students based on the IEP/assessment.
- Strong collaboration skills.
