About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Engineer to join our team at the Toyota Research Institute of North America (TRINA). As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for handling routine laboratory synthesis and analyses, conducting investigations, and summarizing/compiling findings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare nanomaterials using electrospinning and sputtering techniques, and modify surfaces through wet chemical methods.
  • Perform characterizations using FESEM, XPS, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy, and fabricate small electrochemical devices/sensors.
  • Measure device/sensor performance and regularly report and present to the research team and management.
  • Tight collaboration with colleagues with different expertise.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with analytical tools such as FESEM, XPS, Raman spectroscopy, and TEM.
  • Experience in the synthesis of inorganic nanomaterials and knowledge of the safe operation of related tools.
  • Proficiency in using graphic software such as Adobe Illustrator, as well as data analysis and visualization software such as Igor or Origin.

Desired Attributes:

  • Experience with CAD and MEMS, including clean room operations. Experience in electrochemical catalysis research, such as CO oxidation, CO2 reduction reactions (CO2RR), hydrogen evolution reactions (HER), and oxygen evolution reactions (OER). Experience with various types of biosensors, including enzyme-based biosensors, electrochemical biosensors, immunosensors, and others.
  • A passion for contributing/writing research papers.
