Head of Internal Controls

The Head of Internal Controls will play a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of OpenAI. This position is responsible for managing technical accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls to ensure the accuracy of financial information.
Key Responsibilities- Risk Management: Lead comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities and develop robust mitigation strategies.
- Control Design and Implementation: Craft and refine a suite of control activities grounded in COSO principles, including IT General Controls (ITGCs), policies and procedures, and segregation of duties.
- Process Monitoring and Improvement: Develop and manage a sophisticated monitoring system to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, provide real-time insights, and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Leadership and Influence: Take on a pivotal leadership role in safeguarding OpenAI's control environment, delivering polished reports to stakeholders, and acting as the primary point of contact for external auditors.
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field with at least 12+ years of experience in risk management, internal controls, or a related function.
- Professional certifications such as CPA, CIA, or CISA, with a deep understanding of the COSO framework and experience in applying it within a tech-focused environment.
- Experience with ITGCs and external vendor reviews, including SOC 2 reviews or similar.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze risk and design effective controls.
