**Job Overview**
We are seeking an experienced Armed Public Safety Officer to join our team at Quinnipiac University. As a key member of our Public Safety Department, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
About the Role
The Armed Public Safety Officer will serve as a first responder to all emergencies on campus, providing protection to life and property. You will respond to calls for service, conduct preliminary investigations, and write detailed incident reports. In addition, you will contact local law enforcement as necessary and respond to emergencies occurring off-campus at Quinnipiac-owned properties.
Responsibilities
- Patrol duties: Respond to all emergencies on campus, including fires, medical emergencies, and security breaches.
- Conduct preliminary investigations and write detailed incident reports.
- Contact local law enforcement as necessary.
- Respond to emergencies occurring off-campus at Quinnipiac-owned properties.
- Conduct preventive patrols and make routine security checks of all off-campus buildings and structures.
- Detect and investigate criminal activity on university property.
- Detain persons who have committed offenses and turn custody over to local law enforcement.
- Issue citations and tow vehicles as necessary.
Campus Security Services
- Conduct security patrols of all Quinnipiac properties 24/7, year-round.
- Patrols are made primarily by vehicle, but walking and bicycle patrols are also performed.
- Answer all alarm calls and manage building access control.
- Report unsafe building and grounds maintenance issues to Facilities Department.
- Serve as emergency notifying agency for facilities-related issues after business hours.
- Assist community members, guests, and visitors needing help or support.
- Provide security and crowd management services at special events such as athletic events, move-in, and graduations.
- Provide escorts and dignitary protection.
Qualifications
- Mandatory Qualifications:
- The Armed Public Safety Officer shall be a retired member of an organized local, state, or federal government agency as a law enforcement officer.
- Served as a local, state, or federal law enforcement officer for an aggregate of 2 years or more and separated from such service in good standing.
- Current State of Connecticut Pistol Permit.
- Ability to obtain Connecticut State Police Approved Armed Security Guard Firearms Permit (Blue Card).
- Basic computer skills required.
- Candidate must pass extensive background investigation including check for criminal history and psychological exam.
- Candidate must pass physical exam and drug test.

Estimated Salary: $25.00 per hour
This position offers shift differential pay and overtime opportunities. Newly hired officers will be assigned to either the evening shift or the overnight shift, based on the needs of the department at time of hiring.
