Job Title: Certified Nursing Assistant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to join our team at Developmental Services, Inc. - Kokomo. The successful candidate will provide care and support to clients with behavioral and medical needs in our ADS settings and community living environments.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide care and support to clients with behavioral and medical needs, including daily living skills, socialization skills, and fine and gross motor skills.
  2. Develop and implement individualized care plans to meet the unique needs of each client.
  3. Document client progress and provide regular updates to supervisors and other stakeholders.
  4. Assist with medication administration, including passing and monitoring medication.
  5. Provide transportation and support for clients to appointments, work, and other daily living activities.
  6. Assist with medical care and treatment, including toileting assistance, changing and re-positioning clients, and preparing and pureeing meals.
  7. Provide a safe and supportive environment for clients, including planning and participating in community-based activities.
  8. Display patience and understanding when interacting with clients, and respond to client behavior in a calm and professional manner.
  9. Comply with all funding sources and governing bodies, including CARF, BQIS, State Board of Health, and State and Federal Law.
  10. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines and agency policies.
  11. Follow policies and procedures set forth by the agency, and create a positive environment for clients, parents, guardians, and participating staff.
  12. Assist with physical activities, including lifting, bending, and transferring clients, and provide first aid and physical assistance as needed.
  13. Use medical adaptive equipment, including wheelchairs, Hoyer lifts, and shower chairs, and monitor the physical condition of client homes.
  14. Be punctual and have consistent attendance, and be willing to work irregular shifts, including weekends and holidays, as necessary to meet client needs.
  15. Communicate effectively with clients, family members, and other stakeholders, and remain awake and available to support clients at all times during scheduled hours.
  16. Attend meetings and training as requested or authorized, and display a team-oriented, cooperative attitude while maintaining a positive working relationship with co-workers, supervisors, and clients.
Requirements:
  1. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) License.
  2. Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  3. High School diploma or GED preferred.
  4. Previous experience working with clients with intellectual disabilities is preferred.
  5. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong teamwork skills.
  6. Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining annual certification in CPR, First Aid, CPI, and Med Core A & B.
  7. Proficient in word processing and computer operation.
  8. Possess and maintain a clear criminal record per Medicaid Waiver regulation requirements.
  9. Maintain a valid Indiana driver's license, insurance on personal vehicle, and maintain insurability as defined by the agency liability insurance carrier.
  10. Possess and maintain reliable transportation that meets state requirements.
  11. Must have the ability to successfully work in both independent and group settings, and communicate during a crisis situation.
