Electrical Engineer - Transportation Business Line

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Support the electrical engineering design work on assigned projects under the guidance of the senior staff and the lead electrical engineer and in accordance with the National Electrical Code.
  • Develop of electrical system single-line diagrams including medium voltage and low voltage systems.
  • Perform Power system studies (load flow, short circuit, protective coordination, arc flash analysis).
  • Develop and evaluate AC/DC schematics and connection diagrams.
  • Develop and summarize electrical load calculations.
  • Coordinate and plan equipment layouts including sectional views.
  • Assist in developing bill of materials and take off quantities.
  • Size electrical distribution equipment including switchgear, switchboards, transformers, feeders and conductors, and battery systems.
  • Develop and edit electrical equipment specifications.
  • Develop electrical site plans, grounding plans, raceway plans, cable tray plans etc.
  • Write basis of design documents and design analysis.
  • Review contractor submittals and respond to RFI's during construction.
  • Support electrical system start-up and commissioning efforts.
  • Review engineering work performed by peers.
  • Occasional travel to client or project sites.
  • Participate in field walks and site investigations and create field sketches, take dimensions, climb ladders, etc. as necessary for site data collection.

The ideal candidate will have a strong familiarity with industry codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA etc). Experience with Texas and Gulf Coast region Electric Utilities and retrofit or brown field projects is also preferred. Strong written and verbal skills with an ability to lead engineering tasks and interface with client, utility company, and other stakeholders are required.
