Job Summary

An Assistant Teacher at AEA Mariposa is responsible for providing comprehensive support to our Lead Teachers in managing and supervising a class of children. This includes creating a learning environment that fosters the social, physical, and intellectual growth of children, regardless of their age, background, or abilities.

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in developmentally appropriate practices and will assist teachers in maintaining a safe and orderly environment for all children. They will also be responsible for communicating effectively with families and collaborating with other Assistant and Lead Teachers to achieve the overall goals of AEA Mariposa.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement daily schedules and curriculum, ensuring effective communication and interpretation in the English language.
  • Maintain accurate child observation records and anecdotal notes for use during parent-teacher conferences.
  • Conduct formal and informal assessments to ensure children are on track developmentally.
  • Model socially appropriate behavior in the classroom and on the playground, requiring frequent standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, and lifting.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with families in a polite and respectful manner.
  • Follow all safety and security policies and procedures, documenting any accidents or incidents.
  • Supervise all children, maintaining a secure and safe environment for play and learning.
  • Maintain proper daily attendance records using digital technology, sending messages and updates to families throughout the school day.
  • Prepare a safe, warm, and orderly environment, adhering to all company procedures related to injuries and accidents.
  • Promote positive interactions among teachers and children, treating everyone with respect and dignity.
  • Plan curriculum and materials for the week prior to starting any program.
  • Regularly open and close the assigned classroom in the morning and evening.
  • Clean the classroom, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning the restroom, sanitizing toys and surfaces, and disposing of trash.
  • Assist with meal and snack preparation, feeding children, and modeling table manners.
  • Participate in accreditation goals and perform associated classroom requirements to meet those goals, if applicable.
  • May be required to take additional training classes or courses as required by AEA Mariposa or any state or regulatory agency.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 18 years old.
  • Meet state licensing requirements for education, including maintaining in-service hours as required by state licensing agencies or accrediting bodies.
  • Meet all standards and requirements relating to education and experience as set by the state and accreditation agent.
  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Prefer experience in a licensed or accredited child care center.
  • Prefer Staff Credential or degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, but not required.
  • Prefer CPR and First Aid certification, but not required.
  • Must be able to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in the English language.
  • MUST HAVE 45 required DCF hours.
