About the Position

Maricopa County Animal Care & Control is seeking a compassionate and skilled Veterinarian to join our team. As a Veterinarian with our organization, you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of animals and the community we serve.

Job Responsibilities
  • Examine impounded, in-house, and fostered shelter animals to perform diagnostics, create treatment plans, prescribe therapeutics, and determine appropriate disposition for incoming animals
  • Execute spay/neuter surgeries, perform dental extractions, read and interpret radiograph studies, and perform non-witnessed, owner-requested euthanasia
  • Evaluate animals for release from bite quarantine
  • Monitor, dispense, and log, controlled substances and maintain medical records
  • Participate in biweekly onsite vaccination clinics
  • Provide training to clinic, shelter, and field staff members
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to internal and external clients
Working Conditions

The Veterinarian will work in a fast-paced animal shelter environment with exposure to extreme and varying temperatures, dogs and cats with unknown temperaments and behaviors, excessive noise, animal waste, and fluids, deceased animals, cleaning chemicals, and zoonotic diseases.

Requirements
  • Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine
  • Valid Arizona Veterinarian license, upon hire
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license and have an acceptable driving record by the time of hire
  • Drug Enforcement Agency Certification
