Visual Impairments Teacher

We are seeking a qualified and compassionate Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to provide specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments.

• Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, including braille literacy, orientation and mobility skills, assistive technology, and other compensatory skills.
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with visual impairments.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other school personnel to adapt curriculum materials and create accessible learning environments.
• Conduct functional vision assessments and provide recommendations for classroom accommodations, assistive technology, and environmental modifications.
• Monitor student progress and make adjustments to instruction and IEP goals as needed.
• Support students in developing independence, self-advocacy, and daily living skills.
• Provide training and resources to teachers, staff, and families on how to support students with visual impairments in the classroom and at home.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal special education regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
• Stay current with best practices and developments in the field of visual impairment education.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or a related field.
• Valid Massachusetts teaching license in Visual Impairment.
• Experience working with students with visual impairments, preferred but not required.
• Proficiency in braille, assistive technology, and other tools used in the education of visually impaired students.
• Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
