Job Title: Psychiatric Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Technician to join our team at The Arora Group. As a Psychiatric Technician, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to our patients in the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia.

Job Summary:

The Psychiatric Technician is a full-time position, 80 hours per two weeks, with a varied schedule. You will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to patients with mental health and substance abuse issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide patient care utilizing sound psychiatric and addictions nursing theoretical approaches.
  • Assist in the management of a therapeutic milieu, providing structure, social support, patient education, safety, and social skills training.
  • Monitor, escort, and/or participate in patient activities in the Inpatient Residential Substance Abuse Program.
  • Document patient care and notify mental health providers of any abnormal or unusual findings.
  • Utilize therapeutic assessment and interview skills to gather accurate and concise patient information.
  • Document patient care using proper terminology and follow clinic policies.
  • Exhibit sound judgment and crisis intervention skills, including physical restraints to prevent or reverse potentially harmful situations.
  • Follow command clinic policies for Seclusion/Restraint, Elopement, and Management of the Assaulted patient.
  • Exhibit a basic knowledge of psychotropic medications, including actions, side effects, and common dosages.
  • Follow command policies and procedures for medication administration and documentation.
  • Screen patients to determine presenting problems and priority, and perform basic assessment procedures.
  • Assist credentialed providers with identifying mental health diagnoses and treatment strategies, and provide patient education.
  • Assist in providing specialized treatment and rehabilitation of addiction patients.
  • Present or facilitate health and wellness programs in support of the clinic.
  • Provide care to addiction patients and participate in rehabilitation and treatment programs.
  • Measure and record patient physical condition, such as weight, pulse, temperature, and respiration.
  • Observe patients to detect behavior patterns and report observations to medical staff.
  • Co-facilitate prescribed individual or group therapy sessions, and independently facilitate educational groups.
  • Regularly interface with staff and patients to assess needs and improve service delivery.
  • Prepare records and reports as required, and maintain accurate documentation in ESSENTRIS, AHLTA, or CHCS.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalence, with completion or certification from an accredited formal training program.
  • At least 2 years of substance abuse residential or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) experience.
  • US Citizenship required for access to government computer systems.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers.
