Job Overview

OlympiaTech Electric is seeking a skilled Electrical Cost Estimator to enhance our expanding estimating division. This role will involve assessing projects of various scales and concepts, including design-build, plan and specification, as well as Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP), budgets, and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Estimate both design/build and plan/spec projects, focusing primarily on design-build.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to gather necessary information for bids.
  • Implement value engineering as required during the bidding process.
  • Comprehend the project scope and intended outcomes.

Specific Duties:

  • Provide value engineering insights when appropriate for the bidding process.
  • Participate in post-bid discussions and work with the business development team to prepare necessary deliverables.
  • Review electrical estimates created by the estimating team for accuracy and discuss with the executive team regarding markups, exclusions, and inclusions.
  • Assess labor and material costs to decide whether to construct electrical components in-house or outsource to subcontractors.
  • Identify opportunities and potential risks associated with bidding projects, supplying information to the business development and executive teams for project viability assessments.
  • Engage in daily meetings with the estimating team and business development personnel, along with company executives when available.
  • Assist in mentoring and training junior estimators on software and best practices.
  • Work alongside the business development team to pinpoint potential leads and target markets.
  • Maintain and enhance the ConEst software program to streamline estimating processes and align with construction methods.
  • Prepare and present budget estimates to the construction team as part of the preconstruction phase.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing.
  • Strengthen relationships with manufacturers' representatives and vendors.
  • Continuously refine estimating processes to minimize discrepancies between estimated and actual costs.
  • Stay updated on current electrical and energy codes, providing educational opportunities for the team.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient in reading architectural, structural, and electrical plans and specifications, with familiarity in various electrical systems and terminology.
  • Experience in preparing electrical construction cost estimates and schedules.
  • Knowledge of database management, word processing, scheduling, and relevant software applications.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong analytical and organizational capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.

Experience Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in construction management, electrical engineering, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of four years of experience in electrical construction. Proficiency in computer-based estimating software is essential, with knowledge of ConEst being advantageous.
