The City Medical Specialist role at the Bureau of Public Health Clinics is a critical position in the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. As part of the division of Disease Control, this individual will be responsible for promoting a healthy community by providing New Yorkers with the resources needed to make informed and empowered health decisions.
Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 per yearJob DescriptionThis is a unique opportunity to join the team at the NYC Health Department and contribute to the mission of protecting and improving the health of all New Yorkers. The successful candidate will be a medical specialist with expertise in tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment, as well as experience in public health programming and policy development.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform histories and physicals to evaluate patients for tuberculosis disease or infection
- Supervise or formulate treatments and interventions, including complex regimens for patients with drug-resistant TB
- Monitor patient compliance during treatment and ensure timely follow-up
- Participate in the implementation of patient care protocols for latent TB infection or active TB disease in the BPHC chest centers
- Oversee the work of other City Medical Specialists, healthcare providers, and BPHC staff in the evaluation and treatment of tuberculosis
To be successful in this role, candidates must possess a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York and either Board Certification or eligibility in the appropriate specialty area. Assignment Level II requires one year of satisfactory experience practicing in the specialty area, while Assignment Level III necessitates a Master's degree in Public Health or equivalent, along with at least two years of experience after receipt of the Master's degree. Assignment Level IV demands a completion of an approved residency program, three years of experience, and valid board certification or board eligibility issued by the appropriate American Subspecialty Board.
