Certified Laboratory Technician

Overview:
The role involves precise assessment of specimen requests and inputting clinical data into various information systems. The candidate will identify any discrepancies or missing information and take necessary steps to rectify them. The operation of both automated and semi-automated laboratory equipment will be performed in accordance with established protocols.
It is essential to effectively communicate any supply shortages to the relevant personnel, including issues related to specimens, documentation, database entries, and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Adhere to the standards of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Diligently document required information, including processing logs, quality control records, and reagent labeling.
• Ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and upkeep of laboratory equipment and glassware.
• Manage and distribute laboratory supplies efficiently.
• Prepare laboratory biohazard waste for disposal in compliance with established standards and practices.
• Oversee the supply of laboratory coats.
• Handle the ordering, receiving, stocking, shipping, and tracking of laboratory equipment and supplies.
• Confirm that all equipment is functioning properly or arrange for repairs or replacements as needed.
• Monitor equipment calibrations and preventive maintenance schedules.
• Maintain an inventory of all consumables and reagents.
• Assist in the disposal of biohazard and chemical waste.
• Support the enforcement of all laboratory policies and procedures.
• Aid in ensuring safety protocols regarding personal protective equipment (PPE) are followed.
• Comply with established safety, infection control, security, compliance, and hazardous materials protocols.
Qualifications:
- Preferred: Associate of Science Degree.
- Required: Basic knowledge in microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, and biochemistry as they relate to infectious diseases.
- Preferred: 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory environment or completion of a certification program.
- Required: Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification or Phlebotomist Certification - PBT (ASCP), RPT (AMT), CPT (NPA) or equivalent.
- State Licensure is required in Louisiana.
