About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Archivist to join our team at the National Archives and Records Administration. As an Archivist, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and preserving historical records, ensuring their integrity and accessibility for future generations.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will have a strong background in archival science and be able to apply preservation techniques to textual, electronic, and audiovisual materials. You will also be responsible for developing and delivering responses to non-routine reference requests, requiring innovative research techniques and interpretation of complex rules or procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Review and apply restrictions on records in compliance with the Presidential Records Act (PRA), Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and executive orders.
  • Recognize the complexity associated with multiple restrictions and recommend steps to address such complexity.
  • Apply preservation techniques and recommend strategies for textual, electronic, and audiovisual materials.
  • Develop and deliver responses to non-routine reference requests that draw upon broad knowledge of records, involve multiple sources of information, employ innovative research techniques, or require interpretation of complex rules or procedures.
  • Write finding aids for systematically processed records and FOIA-processed records to facilitate discovery.
Requirements

To be eligible for this position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in archival science or a related field.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level, including utilizing archival principles, designing and executing communications strategies, and interpreting federal laws and regulations.
Work Environment

This is a full-time position working primarily in a sedentary environment with some standing, walking, and lifting required. The selected candidate will be expected to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
