Respiratory Therapist Job Description

UPMC is seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team of healthcare professionals. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a critical role in providing life-changing care to patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Read and interpret medical prescriptions, arterial blood gases, and patient information to assess patient condition and determine treatment requirements.
  • Administer inhalants, medications, and other therapies as prescribed by physicians, ensuring compatibility with patient needs and medical orders.
  • Transport mechanically ventilated patients and respond to code situations, demonstrating expertise in emergency response.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, including therapy information and vital signs.
  • Supervise students during training and demonstrate respiratory care procedures to trainees and other healthcare personnel.
  • Set up and operate respiratory therapy equipment, ensuring optimal results and patient safety.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of a Co ARC-approved Respiratory program.
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Basic Life Support or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
