We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Medical Assistant II to join our team at UNC Health. As a Medical Assistant II, you will provide routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other healthcare team members in an outpatient clinic setting.
Key Responsibilities- Perform rooming and intake processes, collecting and documenting patient data, including vital signs, height, weight, and medical history.
- Collect patient and family data, including medical and social history, and review current medication lists, allergies, and preferred pharmacies.
- Assist providers during treatments, examinations, and procedures, and collect specimens and perform phlebotomy as needed.
- Administer medications under the direction of a provider and perform tests, such as EKGs and eye exams, under the direction of a provider.
- Review patient records to determine whether patients require routine health screenings and ensure exam and treatment rooms are stocked with necessary supplies and equipment.
- Provide patients with after-visit instructions and educational materials as directed, and assist with patient registration, check-in, and appointment scheduling.
- Answer clinic telephones and assist with in-basket tasks under the direction of a provider or nurse.
- Assist in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse.
- Precept new medical assistants and train other medical assistants in clinic procedures.
- Assist physicians with maintaining preventive health measures for a panel of patients.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accreditation Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred but not required.
- Medical Assistant certification by either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA) required.
- Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required.
- Possess at least one year of full-time experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified.
- Demonstrate possession of the competencies outlined in the Medical Assistant, Certified Advancement Worksheet through their application and interview.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to engage positively with patients and families and to work as a team with staff and providers.
- Ability to use a computer to document required information into the electronic medical record.
This is a full-time position with a standard work schedule of 40 hours per week. The salary range is $25.86 per hour (hiring range). This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System.
