Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse - Emergency Department

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. As a key member of our Emergency Department, you will provide high-quality patient care and work collaboratively with our healthcare team to achieve desired patient outcomes.

Job Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse - Emergency Department will provide basic therapeutic nursing care to patients under the supervision of a registered professional nurse, an advanced practice provider, or licensed physician. You will assist the RN and healthcare team to achieve desired patient outcomes and communicate effectively by working cooperatively with others while showing respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides direct patient care utilizing the nursing process under the supervision of a registered professional nurse, an advanced practice provider, or licensed physician.
  • Collaborates with the Registered Professional Nurse on the execution of patient plans.
  • Collaborates with the healthcare team to advocate for the clinical, emotional, ethical, spiritual and cultural needs of patients.
  • Monitors and reports patients' progress towards expected outcomes and deviations to registered professional nurse, an advanced practice provider, or licensed physician.
  • Documents all patient care activities, as per documentation standards, and assists healthcare team members with documentation.
  • Reports changes in patient condition to the registered professional nurse, an advanced practice provider, or licensed physician and appropriate healthcare team members in a timely manner.
  • Delegates appropriate patient care activities to clinical technicians or emergency medical technicians.
  • Evaluates and maintains the patient care environment to promote safety.
  • Administers prescribed medications, therapies and treatments following practical nursing standards.
  • Assists with patient education and discharge planning under the direction of the registered professional nurse, an advanced practice provider, or licensed physician.
  • Demonstrates correct stabilization and immobilization of spine and proper fitting of splints for extremities.
  • Collects patient specimens following department/facility policies and procedures.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies to optimize delivery of patient care and treatment.
  • Coordinates with materials management to ensure appropriate stock and minimize outdated stock.
  • Obtains 12 lead ECG per licensed provider.
  • Provides wound care according to department clinical practice standards.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited LPN school.
  • At least 2 years of LPN experience, ED strongly preferred.
  • BLS Certification (from the American Heart Association).
  • Eligible for licensing in the commonwealth of Virginia as a LPN.
