Job Summary:

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Laboratories Team Leader to oversee the efficient integration and management of the team and operations in the Diagnostic Blood Bank Laboratories. The successful candidate will report to the Manager of the Diagnostic Blood Bank Laboratories and will be responsible for defining performance standards and managing operations to support consistent outcomes that meet or exceed quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily activities and the team to optimize operational processes and meet quality performance standards within the Laboratory service.
  • Supervise personnel, select new employees, assure staff are properly trained and meet competencies, identify training needs, and be responsible for performance evaluation.
  • Develop and implement quality control/assurance program, including appropriate proficiency testing and peer review standards.
  • Responsible for maintaining all required activities and documents to assure compliance with both regulatory and accreditation standards applicable to this laboratory.
Position Qualifications:
  • Education, experience, certification, and license should be applicable to the specialty area or department as a generalist or categorical.
  • Successful completion of CAHEA or NAACLS accredited Medical Technology program or BS from accredited institution with major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science and ASCP technologist generalist or categorical certification or equivalent certification.
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) from accredited institution.
  • 3 years relevant experience.
  • Licensed Medical Laboratory Supervisor.
  • Licensed Medical Laboratory Technologist.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MLS (ASCP) Certification and state of Tennessee Medical Technologist license.
  • Technologist Supervisor - Generalist license in the state of Tennessee.
  • Prior diagnostic laboratories supervisory experience in the diagnostic Blood Bank laboratories.
