POSITION SUMMARY

The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and delivering direct therapy and instructional support to students facing challenges in articulation, voice quality, fluency, and language processing.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology is mandatory.
  • Possession of a Certificate of Clinical Competence or ASHA recognized Clinical Fellow is essential.
  • Valid Arizona IVP Clearance Card must be obtained and maintained.
  • Current licensure from the Arizona Department of Health Services in Speech and Language Pathology is required.
  • A valid Arizona Department of Education Certificate is necessary.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations is expected.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement screening protocols to identify students with speech and language impairments.
  • Collaborate with educators to observe and refer students who may have speech or language issues.
  • Conduct both informal diagnostic assessments and formal standardized testing to evaluate articulation, voice, fluency, and language disorders.
  • Provide diagnostic evaluations for preschool-aged children referred for assessment.
  • Analyze assessment results to determine the necessity for speech-language intervention.
  • Develop tailored speech and language treatment plans that outline goals, methods, frequency, and necessary modifications for classroom integration.
  • Deliver individualized therapeutic programs that cater to the unique needs of students with speech and language challenges.
  • Create and sustain a supportive therapeutic environment conducive to learning.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust therapy and instruction as needed.
  • Offer guidance to teachers and staff on strategies to support students with speech deficits within the general education framework.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records for students receiving speech and language services.
  • Provide information and support to parents of children with speech and language difficulties.
  • Share progress updates and goals with parents upon request.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, educators, and administrative staff.
  • Document and track referrals, screenings, and eligibility for services.
  • Compile and analyze data to fulfill reporting requirements for speech and language services.
  • Utilize the District’s Individualized Education Plan software to establish and document speech and language objectives.
  • Participate in Individualized Education Plan meetings to contribute insights and recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with Medicaid documentation requirements for services rendered.
  • Prepare reports to meet local and state educational standards.
  • Uphold the confidentiality of student records.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of speech language pathology assistants as permitted by Arizona law.
  • Act as a leader in the areas of speech, language, and communication.
  • Engage in collaborative team discussions regarding student needs.
  • Perform additional duties or participate in committees as assigned by the administration.
