In this key role as a Pipe Crew Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the construction activities of one or more crews engaged in digging areas for laying out, assembling, and installing pipe, pipe systems, pipe supports, and fittings. You'll work on projects big and small, playing an integral part as we stand together to reinvent the way our world is built.

You will have the opportunity to lead and motivate groups of individuals with diverse backgrounds and skillsets, ensuring that all crew members are working safely and efficiently. About the Job

In this role, you will be responsible for:
  • Managing personnel in a safe and effective manner by providing onsite direction and guidance for employees during the course of the workday.
  • Planning, troubleshooting, and scheduling daily work assignments, assigning priorities, requisitioning materials and equipment, and completing projects in a timely manner.
  • Preparing and maintaining required written records, logs, progress reports, time and weight tickets, attendance records, and safety and inspection documents as required.
  • Reading and understanding blueprints, charts, maps, and other construction drawings and plans.
  • Consulting with other project supervisors and engineers, attending meetings, performing on-site inspections, and conducting weekly safety meetings.
  • Operating equipment safely and efficiently by utilizing equipment within its designed parameters.
  • Locating utilities and other buried lines prior to digging.
  • Performing pre- and post-shift inspections of equipment.
  • Checking equipment parts to ensure proper function of equipment.
  • Performing daily safety and pre-task meetings.
  • Assisting with general labor and maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Shoveling earth/dirt to prepare ground trenches for pipes.
  • Digging up existing ground pipes and other debris with manual tools as needed.
  • Guiding pipes into place while equipment operators maneuver pipes attached with chains/guide wires.
  • Attaching trench boxes to chains/guide wires so they can be lowered or lifted by equipment operators.
  • Attaching pipes to chains/guide wires.
  • Cutting pipe and connecting pipe using miscellaneous tools, lubricants, glue/grout.
  • Setting up and moving laser levels/tripods and pipe lasers.
  • Performing job site clean-up.
  • Fencing off job site areas for safety purposes and setting up barricades and safety cones.
  • Performing minor servicing and maintenance or referring major problems to supervisors.
  • Keeping machines cleaned and maintained.
  • Traveling to and from various locations.
  • Participating in and promoting an inclusive work environment.

Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the following skills and qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience and familiarity with the installation of underground wet utilities.
  • Knowledge of utility installation (extensive knowledge of underground utility installation practices).
  • A valid driver's license.
  • The ability to read and comprehend blueprints, site specifications, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. The ability to write simple correspondence.
  • The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • A safety-minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance, and punctuality.
  • The ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical examination.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States.
  • The ability to travel outside Helena, MT, and may require 50% or more during work season.
