Laboratory Information Systems Specialist

Job DescriptionAs a Laboratory Information Systems Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting Labware LIMS and other laboratory quality systems. Your mission will be to investigate, test, and recommend new software solutions for existing or proposed processes, evaluate and implement new applications, and support ongoing effective utilization of applications.
Key responsibilities include:
- Identifying opportunities for improving LIMS functionality and performance
- Providing production support and development of LIMS systems, including configuration, administration, upgrades/patches, system documentation, user support, custom reports, bug fixes, enhancements, and training
- Developing interfaces from LIMS to scientific instruments and troubleshooting any issues
- Configuring and supporting LIMS analysis, test lists, and other LIMS static data as needed
- Meeting with users to plan the implementation of LIMS, enhancements, and assessing the impact on operations and necessary workflow changes
- Focusing on meeting customer expectations and working with a customer service mindset
- Developing Crystal and Excel reports, data reports to customers, Key Performance Indicator reports, and any other reports needed to support the laboratory functions
- Supporting the business in the retrieval of data from LIMS and providing data for analysis utilizing queries and reporting tools
- Meeting with lab management teams to plan the implementation of LIMS, enhancements, and assessing the impact on operations and necessary workflow changes
- Working directly with laboratory equipment manufacturers to understand and maintain LIMS/equipment interfaces
- Participating in the weekly on-call rotation
To be successful in this role, you should possess a bachelor's degree in computer science or a scientific discipline, such as chemistry or microbiology, or equivalent experience in a laboratory setting. A minimum of 2 years of IT systems configuration and support experience is required, gained through college coursework or working as an intern.
Key skills include:
- Basic knowledge of system development life cycle (SDLC) and familiarity with Oracle backend writing stored procedures, functions, packages, database triggers, and PL/SQL
- Experience in building SQL queries, optimization, and fine-tuning
- Experience applying knowledge of laboratory workflow and Quality Control principles
- Well-organized with effective oral and written communication skills and a positive attitude
- Able to multitask on several projects simultaneously
- Familiarity with industry-standard scientific instruments
- Ability to interact with all levels of the organization
Merieux NutriSciences offers a competitive salary range of $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience. Work EnvironmentThis position works in an office environment, with occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials when visiting laboratory locations. The usual work hours are 40 hours a week, with longer hours possible for special projects or international time constraints. Physical dexterity is necessary to effectively manipulate a keyboard, and the incumbent can expect extended time spent in a sitting position.
