Job Title: Lead Electrical Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team at Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc. in Lenexa, Kansas. As a key member of our Industrial Design Group, you will be responsible for leading electrical engineering design efforts for industrial facilities, including chemical plants, mining/mineral processing, power, water/wastewater, processing plants, advanced manufacturing plants, data centers, EV Battery, and petrochemical facilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead electrical engineering design efforts for industrial facilities, including preparation of electrical engineering deliverables, such as one-lines, layout, design schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment data sheets, hazardous area classification drawings, electrical power studies, etc.
  • Perform complex calculations and apply standards correctly, without supervision.
  • Take a leadership role when working with peers, able and willing to run projects and lead others.
  • Formulate technical specifications and prepare interface points with construction partners. Schedule, review, and coordinate design efforts with other project personnel, performing bid evaluations of equipment and construction proposals and developing recommendations for contract award.
  • Review electrical requirements for new facilities and project plans. Review application of standards for correct interpretations (including NEC).
  • Lead quality checks of the design and engineering of a mid to major sized project to ensure accuracy.
  • Perform ETP analysis and simulation, system modeling, protection coordination, reliability studies, load flow studies, and grounding integrity.
  • Utilize SmartPlant for balance of plant electrical systems design.
  • Mentor, train, and guide junior engineers, maintaining a comprehensive understanding of departmental design standards, applicable engineering codes, and Kiewit guidelines, providing suggestions and recommendations as needed. Serve as a resource and subject matter expert for the discipline.
  • Lead projects and other engineers, including both in-house inter-discipline engineers and construction partners to provide our clients the industry's best of both engineering and physical design.
  • Support RFP, Pre-Feed, FEED, D/B, and EPC projects for electrical designs across multiple markets.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university and EIT license is required.
  • Minimum of 12+ years' experience performing electrical engineering design for industrial facilities.
  • Experience with ETAP Electrical Power System Analysis Software (or similar tool) for simulation/analysis is required.
  • Able to serve as a technical resource, lead a project, and be a point of contact for external or internal customers.
  • Able to lead a team to complete tasks/design on a project, providing mentoring, design guidance to less experienced engineers.
  • Experience working with a project team as the Engineering Discipline lead and coordinate with other stakeholders in engineering, procurement, and construction on the projects.
  • Experience with SmartPlant, or similar electrical/plant software for designing electrical systems or I&C systems in an industrial facility.
  • Develop and present work in a well-constructed manner, excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to convey ideas and messages succinctly, with a collaborative approach to design and solve problems.
  • PE preferred, or willingness to obtain within one year.
  • Experience with FEED, D/B, EPC designs, familiar with 30/60/90% completion design progression.
  • Experience in field construction or startup and previous experience directing junior engineers is desirable.
  • Experience with power system studies, relay coordination, short circuit load flow, protection, relay coordination, arc flash, low to medium power preferred.
  • Experience with industry codes, guidelines, and standards to include NEC, NFPA, and API.
  • Self-directed, able to work with limited to no supervision.
