Key Responsibilities:
• Adhere to the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Pharmacy Technicians are responsible for performing non-judgmental technical tasks under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
• Assist Pharmacists in gathering Medication Histories.
• Provide training for Pharmacy Technician I associates.
• Prepare medication orders as per physician requests in accordance with established protocols.
• Accurately verify computerized patient medication records and maintain complete patient drug records.
• Compounding pharmaceuticals, including non-sterile and sterile products, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition products, with precision.
• Manage the issuance of controlled substances to patient care areas while maintaining necessary records as mandated by law and institutional policies.
• Deliver services efficiently and promptly.
• Ensure that daily departmental activities are completed and documented.
• Maintain the required competencies for the current job title/position.
• Keep current technician license and ensure continuing education records are up to date. Attend departmental meetings.
• Maintain IV certification and competencies.
• Complete all competency assessments as required.
• Specialty area responsibilities include serving as a technician in areas such as the operating room, IV room, or other pharmacy work areas.
• Provide ambulatory pharmaceutical care services as assigned, including anticoagulation clinics and medication reconciliation.
• Perform outpatient distributive functions related to prescription orders and coordinate medication delivery for patient pick-up or delivery. Clinical Duties and Responsibilities
• Ensure safe, appropriate, and cost-effective drug therapies for patients in accordance with established protocols.
• Accurately read, extract, and interpret information from patient medical records.
• Detect and report suspected adverse drug reactions in a timely manner.
• Sustain the hospital drug formulary while minimizing non-formulary procurements and promoting rational drug therapy selection.
• Provide accurate and timely drug information to pharmacy associates.
• Coordinate pharmacist drug education for patients and their families per institutional protocol.
• Participate in quality improvement and medication use review activities, including data collection and documentation.
• Conduct designated clinical interventions as defined by departmental goals.
• Ensure efficient and timely service delivery. Occupational Hazards
• Potential exposure to hazardous substances, including chemotherapeutic agents and cleaning solutions.
• Risk of exposure to biologic materials during direct patient care activities.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 3-5 years of pharmacy technician experience preferred.
- Must meet all criteria of Pharmacy Technician I.
- Registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of practice required.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician preferred.
- Completion of an ACPE accredited IV certification program, including hazardous training.
