Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems is seeking a seasoned Principal Engineer Software - Java to join our diverse and skilled team. This role involves working in an embedded technology setting to develop software for real-time operating systems utilized in critical flight and mission applications. We engineer intricate aircraft systems leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as simulation, cloud computing, DevSecOps, and cybersecurity, evolving rapidly to enhance capabilities for deployed systems in partnership with our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop Java applications as part of a collaborative team of developers and integrators focused on delivering software products.
  • Engage in the software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, and the build/test/release process.
  • Utilize object-oriented programming, design patterns, JMS, Web Services, XML, and related technologies (e.g., XPath, XSLT, XSD).
  • Create enterprise solutions within a Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) framework in a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) environment.
  • Operate within a process-driven software development environment throughout the software lifecycle.
  • Regularly collaborate with team members to achieve project goals.

In this dynamic work environment, you will face high expectations and diverse assignments while collaborating with team members across all levels. Comfort in a lab setting and close collaboration with system engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers is essential.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be self-driven, proactive, and goal-oriented, with a desire to enhance our services and excel in our endeavors.

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) with 5 years of relevant engineering experience; or a Master's degree in STEM with 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Experience with at least one programming or scripting language such as Java, Python, Go, C++, C#, PowerShell, VBScript, Bash, or KornShell.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development, object-oriented programming, software integration, and testing.
  • Experience with at least one of the following cloud technologies and service providers: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Active Top Secret DoD Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain program access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing enterprise solutions for Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) in a cloud-based setting.
  • Knowledge of Java microservices, GUI applications, threading, intermediate object-oriented programming, design patterns, Data Distribution Service (DDS) messaging, web technologies, UML, database essentials, and SQL/NoSQL.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel and management.
