Position Overview:
This part-time role is situated within the Exceptional Education Department and focuses on the upkeep and servicing of hearing amplification systems and assistive listening devices.

Compensation:
Competitive salary structure.

Employment Type:
Part-time, 10-month position (0.5 FTE).

Key Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be tasked with the following duties:

  • Traveling to various educational sites to conduct routine equipment assessments and address requests for troubleshooting, repairs, or replacements of audiometric devices.
  • Executing listening evaluations on equipment and implementing procedures to verify proper functionality.
  • Providing training and education to staff and students regarding the effective use and maintenance of amplification systems and assistive listening devices.
  • Consulting operating manuals and collaborating with manufacturers to resolve issues, perform minor repairs, and manage equipment that requires servicing.
  • Overseeing and maintaining an inventory of audiometric devices and components, placing orders for necessary parts, and monitoring service agreements.
  • Acting as a liaison among educators, students, and licensed audiologists to ensure all audiometric requirements are fulfilled and equipment concerns are addressed.
  • Maintaining accurate records and preparing necessary reports.
  • Carrying out additional related tasks as required.

Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • (a) A bachelor's degree in communication disorders, audiology, speech/language pathology, or a related discipline from a regionally accredited or NYS registered institution; OR
  • (b) A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited NYS registered institution and one year of experience with audiometric equipment or as an interpreter or language facilitator; OR
  • (c) An associate's degree from a regionally accredited NYS registered institution and three years of experience with audiometric equipment or as an interpreter or language facilitator; OR
  • (d) A high school diploma or equivalent and five years of experience with audiometric equipment or as an interpreter or language facilitator. An equivalent combination of training and experience may also be considered.

Special Requirements:
Upon appointment, candidates must possess a valid driver's license in New York State or demonstrate the ability to meet transportation requirements for the role. A clearance for employment from the State Education Department is also required for positions involving direct contact with students.

Salary:
$39,000 (base salary prorated based on hours worked), with potential additional salary credit for relevant experience and/or education up to 10 years. Excellent benefits are available.
