As a key member of the James City County Election Office, the Deputy Registrar will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of the democratic process. This position is responsible for managing all aspects of absentee voting, including mail and email applications, ballot issuance, and voter communication.
Responsibilities- Process and manage absentee mail and email applications, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
- Communicate with voters, including military and overseas citizens, to ensure their absentee voting needs are met.
- Manage and maintain accurate records of absentee voters, including tracking and projecting stringent deadlines.
- Design and implement tracking and projection spreadsheets to ensure efficient absentee voting operations.
- Provide direct supervision and support to on-call staff and volunteers as needed.
- Maintain absentee records in accordance with retention requirements established by the Library of Virginia.
- Develop and implement ongoing annual calendars for tasks required for absentee voting operations.
- Manage and respond to all inquiries submitted to the main department email address.
- Must be a qualified voter in Virginia.
- Must possess, or obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Virginia driver's license and have an acceptable driving record based on James City County's criteria.
- Thorough knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment, as well as principles and processes for providing customer service.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and implement Virginia Election Laws.
- Advanced computer software skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, the public, and vendors.
