Role Summary

We are looking for a proficient Software Engineering Manager to lead our talented team of engineers and scientists. In this role, you will spearhead the development of a cutting-edge, data-driven platform that transforms battery development.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in full-stack software development, coupled with leadership skills and a strong customer-oriented approach. A background in AI/ML platforms and data engineering is highly advantageous. You will be instrumental in architecting our platform, prioritizing features in collaboration with scientific and commercial teams, managing the team's workload, and ensuring timely delivery of functionalities. As a key player in an early-stage startup, you should be ready to engage hands-on and help establish foundational processes. A background in physical sciences, particularly in chemistry or materials engineering, is preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to define the technical roadmap and align it with business objectives and market dynamics.
  • Mentor and manage a diverse team of software engineers, conducting regular assessments of timelines and providing technical guidance.
  • Oversee the creation and management of robust software solutions to achieve immediate results while laying the groundwork for future tools.
  • Facilitate technical discussions and ensure compliance with best practices and architectural standards.
  • Manage computational infrastructure, including cloud-based tools and team development resources.
  • Lead the hiring process to expand our engineering team in alignment with our growth strategy.
  • Represent the engineering team's capabilities and requirements in high-level planning sessions.
  • Implement AI/ML algorithms to address complex business challenges and enhance product features.
  • Design and optimize data pipelines for efficient data collection, processing, and analysis.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends to evaluate their potential impact on our offerings.
Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in a STEM field (Ph.D. or M.S. preferred) with a minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering focused on cloud solutions and distributed systems.
  • At least 2 years of experience in managing software development teams.
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize software specifications and development workflows.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.
  • Ability to articulate a clear vision and inspire action within the team.
  • Expertise in AWS cloud services and infrastructure automation.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML technologies and frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
  • Experience with data engineering tools and frameworks.
  • Understanding of materials science concepts is a plus.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with a knack for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.
