Cardiology Registered Nurse Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Cardiology Registered Nurse to join our team at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. As a Cardiology Registered Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our healthcare organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices.
  • Participate as part of an interdisciplinary care team in the treatment of cardiac-vascular conditions such as heart failure, heart valve disorders, high blood pressure, vascular disorders, heart attack, and arrhythmia.
  • Interpret data and respond to urgent situations in a way that optimizes patient care and produces positive outcomes.
  • Use analytical skills to review test results, draw conclusions, and advise on treatment plans.
  • Perform and interpret various cardiac and vascular lab tests.
  • Work closely with cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, electrophysiologists, and other physicians in the care and treatment of full-range cardiovascular conditions.
  • Participate in clinical trials and clinical research programs as per clinic needs.
  • Document legible and concise entries in the medical record.
  • Document complete medical history on each patient on initial session and updated medical record appropriately with each visit.
  • Perform appropriate patient preparation for each visit and/or procedure.
  • Perform medication reconciliation on each visit.
  • Educate patients on cardiovascular diseases, including but not limited to preventive measures.
  • Help diagnose and treat cardiovascular events.
  • Assist in performing diagnostic tests such as ECGs, EKGs.
  • Initiate Holter and Event monitors.
  • Interact with patients as well as their families pre and post treatment.
  • Monitor the patient and their vitals, especially cardiovascular readings.
  • Assess and interpret lab results.
  • Possess knowledge of ACC/AHA guidelines related to heart failure.
  • Makes critical decisions concerning the initiation of emergency medical procedures as appropriate.
  • Maintains an orderly, efficient, and timely flow of patients.
  • Greet patients and prepare them for physician's examination.
  • Provide general nursing care to patients as necessary for office treatment.
  • Screen patients for appropriate information.
  • Instruct patients in collection of samples and tests.
  • Arrange for patient testing and admissions.
  • Check rooms daily for necessary supplies.
  • Respond to and refer incoming telephone calls.
  • Instruct patients and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Maintain and review patients' records and other pertinent information.
  • Post tests and examination results.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Administer medications in accordance with physician orders.
  • Maintain current knowledge to assure a safe working environment and demonstrates practical application of all policies and procedures relative to safety and infection control.
  • Utilize universal precautions in any potential contact with patient body fluids or used patient supplies that may be contaminated with patient body fluids.
  • Project a positive image of the facility in all interactions and supporting effective team functioning.
  • Practice and adhere to the 'Code of Conduct' philosophy and 'Mission and Value Statement'.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited school of registered nursing is required.
  • Minimum of three years registered nurse cardiac-vascular experience in an acute care or cardiology clinic setting required.
  • Certification/License: BLS required upon hire, ACLS required within 60 days of hire, Current unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in accordance with state regulations.
