Deputy Sheriff Position

Walworth County is seeking a dedicated and skilled law enforcement officer to join our team. As a Deputy Sheriff, you will be responsible for enforcing traffic laws, investigating crimes, and addressing civil and criminal complaints. You will also be required to carry out civil process duties and assist other emergency services.

To be successful in this role, you must be of good moral character, self-motivated, and have good people skills. You should be interested in becoming a part of our community and be willing to attend the 13-week Basic Law Enforcement Academy. You must also be a United States Citizen, a graduate of an accredited high school or have a high school equivalency certificate, and have a valid South Dakota driver license or be able to obtain one.

The successful candidate will enjoy a full benefit package, including South Dakota Class B retirement, paid health insurance for the single employee, and a life insurance policy. You will also be provided with equipment such as a firearm, body armor, duty belt, and uniforms. Deputies are assigned to take home vehicles and are based out of Selby, SD.

Walworth County is a hunting and fishing recreational paradise, with excellent schools and a Regional Hospital located in Mobridge. The area is made up of mostly farming/agricultural and ranching, serving a population of 5315 residents in 770 square miles. As a Deputy Sheriff, you will be part of a team consisting of the Sheriff, Chief Deputy, and two deputies, providing county-wide law enforcement services.
