Lead Oncology Registered Nurse

Under general supervision, the selected candidate will deliver expert nursing care, along with patient and staff education in a Hematology-Oncology clinic environment. This role also encompasses participation in committees, monitoring quality assurance, and compiling statistical data.
The incumbent may provide clinical and operational oversight in the absence of the Clinical Manager as needed.
ROLE DETAILS:
This position is represented by the California Nurses' Association (CNA) and is eligible for overtime compensation. Salary placement will be determined according to the current CNA memorandum of agreement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate and facilitate comprehensive care delivery to patients and their families in the Hematology and Oncology sectors.
- Evaluate and identify the nursing care requirements of patients; plan, implement, and assess interventions tailored to those needs.
- Design and execute educational programs for patients and their families.
- Assist in setting patient care standards and monitor the performance of nursing personnel in the designated area.
- Contribute to the formulation of clinic policies, procedures, and protocols for patient care.
- Engage in nursing committee activities.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge in Hematology/Oncology and apply this knowledge in patient care.
- Perform additional related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must possess three (3) years of full-time professional registered nursing experience, including two (2) years in an outpatient, Ambulatory Care, or medical clinic setting.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must hold and maintain a current, valid Registered Nurse license issued by the State of California.
- Must have a valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification by the first day of employment.
- Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certification and Oncology Nurse Certification within one (1) year of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certification
- Oncology Nurse Certification
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Comprehensive understanding of the principles, practices, and techniques utilized in Oncology and Infusion nursing care at a specialty level.
Working knowledge of educational methods for patients and staff, quality assurance processes, nursing committee functions, and clinic administrative operations.
Ability to provide guidance and serve as a resource to others; complete required continuing education programs; function effectively in emergency and/or high-pressure situations; maintain confidentiality of patient/client information; and foster positive working relationships with medical staff, the public, patients, and hospital administration.
