About the Role
The Staff Pharmacist shall serve as a key member of the Good Samaritan Hospital team, ensuring compliance with all applicable hospital policies, procedures, codes, and standards. In the absence of the Director of Pharmacy, the staff pharmacist may be required to perform essential duties of the Director of Pharmacy.
Key Responsibilities:- Compound, prepare, mix, manufacture, and dispense medications, drugs, and solutions, ensuring assay and quality control procedures are carried out when necessary.
- Dispense controlled substances, maintain appropriate control forms, provide narcotic information and consultation to physicians and other health professionals.
- Assist in training pharmacy students by supervising and providing information.
- Provide information regarding drugs for all personnel and staff under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy, implement decisions of the P&T Committee.
- Prepare parenteral medications manufactured in the hospital, including IV admixtures and IVPBs when needed, supervise IV technicians while they prepare IVs.
- Maintain and control stock of pharmaceuticals in the pharmacy and on the floors, including antidotes and emergency drugs, under proper storage.
- Maintain legally required prescription files and records of drugs used, dispensed, and/or manufactured, prepare reports as needed.
- Fills and labels cart cassettes if needed.
- Participate in providing information to patients regarding their drug histories for possible allergies and interactions when requested.
- Maintain a drug information file for the hospital.
- Establish specifications for procurement of drugs and biologicals.
- Participate in developing the hospital formulary.
- Enter all orders from the hospital floors into the computer to generate appropriate labels and charges for all inpatients, used, dispensed, and/or manufactured, also prepares reports as needed.
- Monitor drug therapy for contraindications, incompatibilities, allergies, and dosing errors, providing supplemental and complementary information regarding these subjects.
- Issue controlled substances to patient care areas and maintain records as required by law and pharmacy policies.
- Provide drug information to the hospital professional staff and patients as necessary.
- Participate in educational programs provided for the hospital's professional staff.
- Participate in pharmacy orientation programs, pharmacy staff meetings, and in-service educational programs.
