Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Culinary Arts Instructor to join our team at Joplin R8. As a Part-Time Evening Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching adult students in the culinary arts field.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver theory and skills training through direct teaching and demonstration of skills
  • Provide experience in safety and maintenance issues in the kitchen
  • Teach the course curriculum as outlined by Joplin R8 and DESE
  • Maintain accurate records on all students, including attendance records, schedules, and course requirements
  • Evaluate and document students' progress through testing, observation, and assessment of skills attained
  • Provide an environment that encourages student participation, interpersonal skills development, and culinary-based concepts
  • Emphasize workplace readiness skills
  • Work with the program's Advisory Committee to maintain current industry standards
  • Demonstrate the proper and safe use of kitchen equipment
  • Maintain positive classroom management by setting and communicating high, consistent expectations for learning and achievement
  • Employ a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
  • Prepare and grade classroom and lab assignments and examinations
  • Develop relationships with business and industry to remain current in industry standards
  • Prepare students for entry-level employment in the culinary arts field
  • Assist students in obtaining related employment upon successful completion of the program
  • Display appropriate personal and professional traits that exhibit a positive role model for students
Requirements
  • Experienced chef, preferably with teaching experience
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds
  • Regular and consistent attendance
Working Conditions

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally, the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform tasks such as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess.
