Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) supports designated complex telehealth programs through the use of advanced technical skillsets and performs more complex nursing assignments within their setting at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System.

This position will report to the clinic every day for their tour of duty located in Ada, Oklahoma. However, required travel will occur within the tour and within the state for day travel.

Responsibilities

  • Carries out assigned patient care based on the patients' conditions; to use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments; and to accurately recognize, report and record relevant patient information.
  • Observes, identifies, and responds to the patient's needs for medication, equipment-assisted care, and patient/family education.
  • Performs specialized imaging and testing in accordance with national guidelines, as well as support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures.
  • Demonstrates safe nursing practice within the scope of the LPN/LVN.
  • Consistently demonstrates knowledge and ability to recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, seek assistance of appropriate personnel, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed.
  • Ensures assigned telehealth technologies are secured, ready for use, and accounted for by performing minor routine maintenance, and tracking work orders, information systems, inventory records, and communicating with National Telehealth Technology Help Desk to facilitate troubleshooting, repair, and coordination of replacement equipment as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship
  • English Language Proficiency
  • Education:
  • Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
  • Exceptions include:
  • Health care education in the military service or training in the military service which is accepted by the licensing body in the jurisdiction in which the individual is licensed as qualifying for full LPN/LVN licensure will be accepted as meeting the education requirements for VHA employment.
  • Full, active, current and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia.

Grade Determinations

  • GS-7: The GS-7 is for select, complex LPN/LVN positions, as established by each health care facility.
  • Completion of at least one (1) year of additional qualifying experience at the GS-6 level or equivalent, fully meeting all of the performance requirements for the GS-6 LPN/LVN and the knowledge, skills and abilities at the grade 7 level.

Work Schedule

7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday - Friday (based on needs of the clinic)
