Position Overview:
The Breast Imaging Specialist is responsible for conducting digital mammography examinations at a proficient level, ensuring the production of high-quality mammographic images in alignment with established protocols and procedures. This role may also involve performing additional breast imaging tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Expertly performs screening and diagnostic mammograms aimed at identifying breast abnormalities.
- Collects patient medical histories, clarifies standard procedures, and addresses any patient inquiries to promote comfort and confidence, ensuring that individual patient needs are met.
- Operates and oversees the functionality of all designated mammography equipment to guarantee optimal performance.
- Positions patients appropriately and adjusts mammographic equipment settings based on knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques and established protocols, accurately capturing images as requested by healthcare providers.
- Implements quality assurance measures and adheres to radiation safety practices to minimize exposure risks to patients, staff, and self.
- Maintains comprehensive documentation, including logs, charts, forms, and records in both paper and electronic formats.
- Ensures a sufficient inventory of all necessary supplies for quality imaging procedures.
- Conducts routine maintenance and performance checks on all imaging equipment according to established guidelines.
- May provide assistance in other radiology departments as required.
Additional Duties:
Performs other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Graduation from an accredited radiologic technology program.
- Certification in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
- Certification in mammography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
Preferred:
- Associate degree in radiologic technology.
