Key Responsibilities:
- Execute nursing duties as directed, adhering to the Nurse Practice Act, including administering medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician. This includes administering injections, suppositories, enemas, and medications related to wound care.
- Perform nursing duties associated with the Wellness Nurse role as assigned.
- Coordinate medication services with residents, pharmacies, and physicians.
- Order and monitor all medication changes, refills, and deliveries from pharmacies.
- Prepare medications for distribution to residents in accordance with company policy.
- Assist residents in taking their prescribed medications.
- Observe and confirm that medications are ingested or applied as directed. Document any instances of non-administration, including reasons for refusal, and inform the supervisor.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records of resident medications and care in line with company policy. Ensure all medication documentation is current and accurate.
- Keep medication rooms and carts organized, clean, and properly stocked. Maintain an inventory of all supplies and reorder as necessary.
- Control access to the medication room/cart at all times.
- Monitor the use of psychotropic medications to ensure compliance with physician orders and that resident behaviors justify their use.
- Participate in and complete narcotic counts at the beginning and end of each shift, reporting any discrepancies to the supervisor immediately.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, family members, and vendors as required.
- Understand and utilize common medical abbreviations, symbols, and terms relevant to medication administration as used by the company, pharmacists, and physicians.
- Must possess a valid California nursing license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Registered Nurse in good standing.
- Preferred: One (1) year of experience in medication assistance at a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE).
- Knowledge of or ability to learn assisted living and dementia care practices.
- Able to work with seniors and engage patiently with cognitively impaired individuals.
- Flexible and adaptable, capable of making decisions in stressful situations and prioritizing tasks effectively.
- Able to process information and apply common sense to follow written or oral instructions.
- Able to analyze and resolve problems or concerns.
- Capable of performing moderately complex mathematical calculations.
- Must pass a Criminal Background check and Health Screening tests, including physical and TB tests.
- For the health and safety of our team members and residents, compliance with vaccination, daily screening, surveillance testing, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required.
