Job Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant – Physician Services is a vital member of our healthcare team, responsible for providing clinical care to patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse or medical practitioner. This role also involves clerical office assistance to support efficient office operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare exam and treatment rooms, ensuring all necessary supplies and instruments are ready.
- Assist patients during physician visits and examinations as directed.
- Take and record patients' vital signs in their medical charts.
- Understand the proper function and maintenance of specialized medical equipment.
- Perform EKGs, Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT), audiometry, Titmus tests, and other procedures after completing a performance evaluation checklist.
- Conduct urine drug screenings (UDS), breath alcohol testing (BAT), phlebotomy, and lab testing as needed.
- Maintain patient records, complete documentation as directed, and manage filing systems.
- Assist with billing and collections when necessary.
- Use computer software to manage office systems and maintain records.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and adhere to privacy protocols.
- Identify and respond to the needs of the patient population, including considerations for age, culture, language, and physical impairments (hearing, vision, etc.).
- Communicate effectively with patients, parents, and/or caregivers, considering their developmental, educational, and literacy levels.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
- Comply with organizational competencies and behavioral standards.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 5 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 10 lbs., and stand for at least 6 hours a day.
Requirements:
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to interact supportively with diverse populations.
- Capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in computerized systems and data entry.
Education:
- Required: High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Certifications & Licensure:
- AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from NHA, NCCT, AAMA, or AMCA
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from AMT or NAHP
- NCMA (National Certified Medical Assistant)
